TRT have announced production on a soap set in Kibris in 1963 at the time of the Cyprus conflict.
However leaked sourced have confirmed that the production is not quite ‘Kibrisli’ enough, leading locals to question the authenticity of the show. Production crew have been shocked to find everything runs on time and professional, leaving people to wonder ‘how Kibrisli can this show really be?’
“We had a long shoot that started at 6am.” A crew member tells us.
“I arrived at 5.59 expecting to find nobody there and everyone running late because they either forgot, had something else to do or had to help Mustafa amca move apartments, but when I arrived everyone was ready to start!”
It was thought that it was a freak one off occurrence , but the following events confirmed his worst fears.
“We wrapped for lunch and one of the cast told the lunch caterers that she was allergic to fish. Normally any Kibrisli would ignore this request and serve a giant sea bream garnished with prawns served with a fresh comment of ‘ye da korkma’, but the chefs actually listened and arranged her lunch accordingly and respectfully.”
Hearing these harrowing stories from set have sent a chill down the spine of Kibrisli people who are in uproar that the show is painting an image of professionalism and organisation that, quite frankly Kibrisli people have spent years trying to avoid.
We spoke to Mehmet Eski Kafaoğlu, a local resident who lives near where filming is taking place. (Naturally he was late to the interview).
“Nedir bu yaaa??” He said to us as he was talking on the phone to someone else at the same time. “If they are making a dizi about Kibris then you need to be laid-back like a Kibrisli. This means running late, unorganised, making it up as we go along. These people have actual scripts and organised shooting schedules. A real Kibrisli doesn’t know what a schedule is.”
Needless to say the show has caused much controversy for locals who organised a protest against the show, however nobody turned up because it clashed with the Galatasaray vs Fenerbaçe match.
